Kevin is the founder of Kinetic Physiotherapy in Maple Ridge, BC. Kevin has obtained both a Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology from the University of the Fraser Valley and a Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. He has continued his post graduate education by completing numerous courses in Manual Therapy focusing on joint mobilization and manipulation techniques. He has also completed his Acupuncture Certification through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and is certified in Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) / Functional Dry Needling (FDN).

Kevin has significant experience in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries sustained in motor vehicle, occupational and sports related accidents. He has also previously worked in acute care settings with clients after complex surgeries such as hip and knee replacements.

Kevin’s treatment style uses a variety of hands on treatments (soft tissue massage, joint mobilizations and manipulations), acupuncture, therapeutic taping and progressive exercise programs.

Throughout her career, Jessica has gained experience treating clients with issues ranging from Sports Injuries, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Post-Surgical Rehabilitation to Chronic Pain. Jessica has continued her post graduate education by taking coursework in Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation and will continue taking additional courses to further her skills. Jessica is currently working on an orthopedic research project with McGill University and The University of Ottawa and is hoping to be published within the next year.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine involving the insertion of solid filiform acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. No drug is injected. The needles alone create the beneficial effects of acupuncture Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications or even surgery. Relief is often obtained with acupuncture when traditional medical therapy has failed

Is Acupuncture painful?

  • Typically Acupuncture is quite comfortable. Most of the time you will not feel much at all. Occasionally, you may feel a small prick when the needle is inserted but this is not similar to the sensation when getting an injection from a hypodermic needle.
  • Depending on the location of the needle, you may also feel an aching sensation in the muscle. This typically is a desired response as it tends to aid in the process of muscle healing and relaxation
Dry Needling is a general term for a therapeutic treatment procedure that involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the area of the body which produces pain and typically contains a trigger point. There is no injectable solution and typically the needle that is used is very thin. Most patients will not even feel the needle penetrate the skin, but once it advances into the muscle, the discomfort can vary from patient to patient. Usually a healthy muscle feels very little discomfort upon insertion of the needle; however, if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or contains active trigger points, the subject may feel a sensation much like a muscle cramp, often referred to as a ‘twitch response”. The twitch response also has a biochemical characteristic to it which likely affects the reaction of the muscle, symptoms and response of the tissue. Typically, positive results are apparent within 2-4 treatment sessions but can vary depending on the cause and duration of the symptoms, overall health of the patient, and experience level of the practitioner.
Spinal Decompression / Traction relieves pressure on the spinal column by rotating through slow, gentle cycles of traction and relaxation.

This can be a very effective form of treatment for:

Manual Therapy, as an area of practice within physiotherapy, it is a system of assessing, diagnosing and treating selected neuromusculoskeletal disorders with specific skills, including mobilization and manipulation, in conjunction with education and exercise, to restore optimal motion and function, and/or reduce pain.
Manipulation is a treatment technique within the practice of manual therapy. A manipulation is a passive, high velocity, low amplitude thrust applied to a joint beyond its physiological limit of motion, but within its anatomical limit, with the intent to restore optimal motion, function and/or reduce pain.

Manipulations are performed as gentle as possible to allow for a quick restoration of movement while also minimizing post treatment soreness.

Our Physiotherapists also utilize soft tissue massage as an effective way to reduce muscle tension and facilitate more functional movement patterns.
Therapeutic taping can utilize rigid tape or athletic tape to stabilize joints or assist in correcting movement patterns.

Kinesiotape is a very elastic tape that provides support allowing muscles to go through their full range of motion without restriction. It is also an effective taping technique for reducing swelling and muscle discomfort after injury.

Therapeutic exercise is essential to promote speedy recovery and long term successful treatment. The exercises prescribed will be tailored to your specific condition and used to enhance the gains made from the treatment provided in the clinic. Typically, we provide an exercise program for you to follow in order to complete many of the exercises prescribed at home.
