Physiotherapy is an assessment-based health profession focused on how your body moves and functions. A physiotherapist looks at the joints, muscles, nerves and movement patterns involved in your pain or injury, then builds a plan to help you move more comfortably and get back to what you need to do.
Care is usually active. Alongside hands-on treatment, most plans include exercise and education, so you understand what is going on and can keep making progress between visits. Physiotherapy is used for recent injuries, longstanding pain, recovery after surgery, and conditions that affect strength, balance or mobility.
Physiotherapists in British Columbia are regulated health professionals, registered with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. You do not need a doctor's referral to book, although some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse.
Manual therapy
Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue work, used to ease pain and stiffness and make movement easier.
Exercise therapy
A program of strengthening, mobility and control exercises matched to your injury and goals, and progressed as you improve.
Education and self-management
A clear explanation of your condition, what to expect from recovery, and how to manage activity and flare-ups day to day.
Return to activity
A graded plan for getting back to work, sport or daily tasks, with milestones you can track.
Supporting treatments
Where appropriate, your physiotherapist may suggest other options available at the clinic, such as shockwave therapy, dry needling or bracing.
Physiotherapy may support a range of concerns. Your practitioner will assess your needs and recommend an appropriate plan.
Assessment and history
Your physiotherapist asks about your symptoms, how they started, your health history, and what you want to get back to.
Movement testing
They look at how the area moves and test strength, flexibility and joint function, including nearby areas that may be contributing.
Treatment plan
You go over what the assessment found, the treatment options, and a realistic plan and timeline.
Care and education
Treatment often begins at the first visit, combining hands-on care with an explanation of your condition and how to manage it.
Exercise plan and progress tracking
You leave with exercises to do at home, and each visit reviews your progress and adjusts the plan.
Because our physiotherapists, RMTs, and a kinesiologist work under one roof, your physio care can be coordinated with other treatments when helpful — so your recovery feels more connected and complete.
